Default Replacement Block

Just purchased my first C2.It is a beautiful 67 Goodwood green coupe 427 400 4 speed in outstanding condition.I know the engine block is a replacement and am wondering if the general could have sent a 4 bolt in exchange for the 2 bolt original? The date code would be in the warranty period, all other items appear correct for the car.Any help would be appreciated

If the engine was warranty replacement probably not. As I understand it, they used assembled short blocks for replacements and the 4 bolt blocks used different pistons (forged) and cam (solid). I think the 4 bolt blosk also had a tapped and plugged fitting above the oil filter while the 2 bolt blocks didn't.

Check the forward hole of the three directly above the oil filter pad; if the front hole is drilled 5/16" (blind hole), it's a 2-bolt block; if it's a 3/8" pipe thread hole into the oil gallery, it's a 4-bolt block.
