Default holley problems..

Hi All,

Well my freshly rebuilt 2818 has been giving me some fits lately.. I finally got some time and took the carb off to see why my linkage was sticking a bit. It seems that when looking at the gasket, it was wet with gas eminating from the inside out.. Is that normal or do I have a bigger problem? I was thinking that the Holley baseplate is warped or worse yet my manifold... Then of all things while trying to adjust the rear float, I totally messed up the gasket on the adjusting nut... Sooooooo Is there a way to pre-set the float adjusting nut before I put it back in the car? Or am I fighting a lossing battle here... I am just so pissed...

Thanx!

/joe

The gaskets are small round gaskets easily found or made from stock. Nothing really has to be removed other than the screw and the adjusting nut to change the gaskets. It is not necessary to move the needle and seat assembly. Start by adjusting the needle down a little and come up untill the fuel level is near the bottom of the sight hole.

Your leaking problem is probably coming from the rear metering plate. It is a common problem. I would guess you also have a little trouble with hot start.

You can pre set the float level by flipping it upsidedown and adjusting the needle/seat until the float is horizontal. Then you can use the site plugs as Wayne suggested.

Well at last try now I had gas coming up out of the air horn... Not a good sign, so I retired for the night... But before I did, I took the damn thing off again and I looked... The float level adj screw was below the nut..

Next morning I figued some thing was hung up so I took the rear float pad off... It's looks like all my messing with it the spring got cocked a bit and wouldn't let me adjust the float.. So now I'm off to the parts store to see if they have the gasket, which got ruined.. The saga continues...

Now someone told me that the secondary float doesn't really get adjusted as it gets its level from the primary....

Update.. Well as bubba was here, I bent the fuel transfer rod... Had to order a new one.. Just keeps getting better and better...

Thanx for your help...

/joe
