Need your help Re:64 Conv
I know just enough about c2's to be dangerous to myself...help. I am going to look at this car sometime this week.
Have found a 64 Roadster 300hp/4spd with 80,000 orig. miles. Present 3rd owner of a year knew second owner who had for 12 years. States engine pulled/rebuilt then, does not know if has hardned seat inserts. States all suspension is original...good or bad?
Repainted correct color at that time states paint is very good.
Supposedly all numbers match
Leather interior in good condition/power brakes.
Chrome good, but has two 1/8" dia holes drilled somewhere in rear bumpers, does not know why.
Has "original k.o. wheels thinks they are from a 65..how can I tell orig. from repro. and how can I determine year? From what I've read k.o. whls are expensive.
Car also has hardtop, how can I tell if it belongs to car..or does it matter.
Price is 38,500 Firm, very firm. Seems a little high, but car is supposed to be cherry. I think wheels and HT are worth $8/10,000 or no?
Tells me has slight hesitation just off idle, he thinks it is timing???
Sorry this is so long..need many opinions.

Original suspension is good. To show it - repaint springs and shocks. To drive it. Store the shocks in an upright position and mount new ones. My car still rides higher than factory specs on original suspension.
IMO original 65 alloy wheels are $1k each and the top also $1K unless the rear window , paint, and weatherstrip are aall perfect.
If you don't know how to verify numbers match, get a local expert to look. The expert will know if the wheels are repops.
Hesitation could be sticking advance weights in the distributor - common problem.
Paint and frame are the most expensive repairs. check them carefully. People used to drill bumpers for CB antannae - or larger holes for bumper hitches.
IMO the price is high enough to ask a local expert to verify the Cherry condition.

The orginals wheels have dull spokes (not sharp), and the spokes are a little thinner than the repos.
Originals will be stamped K-H on the back repo's will be stamped Western wheel. Huge difference in price between the two.

As for the hard top....I think the 63's had a perferated cardboard head liner and the later had foam covered in vinyl. I may be wrong on the years. The rear window will be dated, so that may give you an idea of the year.

'63-4 wheels are "natural" between the "spokes", '65-6 are dark gray. If everything else is as represented and the cosmetics are very near show quality, the car is worth at least the asking price. The latest issue of Corvette, which I got yesteday lists '64 convertibles at $38,500 for "excellent" and $50,000 for "show condition".

The factory KO's have spokes/fins that are tapered just a bit narrower at the outside than in the center. As JSB69 says, they are a natural color between the spokes.
