The upper right is a Summit brand O2, but will probably change it out for something else, eventually.
Also, I bought a second temp sending unit for the oil temp. I'm using the hole for the clock adjust for a mini switch to choose between oil and water temp to be seen on my temp gauge.
I really like my gauges, especially the granularity of the temp gauge between 180 and 220, but if I had more $$ to spend, I would have gone with a set of electrical 270 degree sweep gauges. I really don't understand why most electrical gauges are only 90 degree sweep.
How are they mounted? If you go to Smokey Point, say Hi to my son Deric @ Bigfoot Music.
Hey dood!
Mine are mounted as suggested by the instructions, but I rolled the rubber cushion ring a little farther up to the bezel to give it just a little more support there.
I used to live in the Navy Housing right down the street from there! How funny! I might be going up that way this weekend, but not for sure just yet. Now I live in N. Everett, although I'm trying to find another job in ABQ or PHX!!! Cold and wet sucks!! Warm and dry much better!!
My question is, did you make a backplate mounted to the panel then install the gauges to that, or??
No! They are mounted in the same hole as the other gauges, I just took the backplate/old gauges/lens assembly out leaving just the console plate, and mounted the gauges to that. Went pretty easily.
I DID however take an extra (read: old, beat up) gauge backplate that mounted the lights, and cut off the 2 sections where the Warning lights were mounted, keeping the screw holes intact, and reassembled the whole thing with factory warning lights working like they should. When I pull it back out next time to install the head unit, I will be adding extra ground wires to those light plates just for redundancy.
The gauges themselves however mounted easily to the console front.
They are the Autometer Sport Comps. I really don't like the look of white-faced gauges, and these look very close to stock appearance.
This is the type of look that I call "Improved Stock", or what the factory should have done!
My idea is to take the original idea of the car from the designers perspective, and just "tweak" it to make it better all the way around, my guess being how this car would have turned out if accountants weren't involved!!
Pretty soon I hope to get the matching speedo and tach in the dash for the whole look.
Here's a closer (bigger) view:
(sorry about the wires hanging down, still haven't gotten the head unit in yet)
Nice job. Did you have to do any dremel work to get them to fit?
Thanks, and yes I had to dremel the gauge holes as all of them except
the clock are flat at the bottom. If you are going to do this becareful,
take your time, don't cut too much at one time. Also, if you look
closely at the pics you will see that I used some big rubber o-rings
that go around the gauge to help cover up the dremel work.
Came out great, I even surprised myself with the work I did on that
project. HTH
