well i went out to work on the car a little befor i have to go out of town for work. i had a few things on my list that i was wating to take care of befor i left so i would have a bit of a head start on my april project. well the first thing i had to do was to make measurements of the finder height at all four corners sense i am about to replace the entire suspension and wanted to know the ride height befor and after. well the fron sits at 28.5" and the rear is at 29.5". so now i know where it sits. the nest thing i needed to do was get it up on jack stands which only took a few minutes and that went smothly. now that the car was on stands i decided to remove the lower dash and sense the pasenger side was out i only had to remove the driver side which waas in bad shape and fell apart while i was taking it out but that isnt the bad part sense i was hopeing that it was sense i was really wanting to replace it sense 90% of the interior is new and once both sides of the lower dash are replaced the only old parts will be the upper dash and door panels which are in awsome shape. well i got the dash out and the car up on stands and at this point i was feeling really good and decided to remove the gas tank shield. a few of you might remember taht i removed the original tank last year and got a new stainless steel tank to replace it and when i removed it i was hopeing to find the build sheet but when the tank came out there was no sheet well i had heard that some people have found the sheet glued to the top of the gas tank shield do i decided to pull it off and check. well after about 15 minutes under the car removing all the bolts the shield was ready to come off so i carefully removed the gas tank shield so that if the build sheet was there it wouldnt get ruined. well i got the shield out and there was no shhet to be had so i just stood there stairing at the top of the shield for a minute with this sinking feeling knowing that this was my last hope of finding the one thing that i was hopeing to have from the car to add to a type of scrap book for my car. so sense i am going to be striping the car apart when i get back in April does anyone know where else i might look to find the build sheet? well things could always be worse i guess.

Found mine ('74) but can't read it.
Not sure what u mean by shield here Mr. Dragon but i did have a plastic sheet for abrasion protection on top of tank - i think. But my build sheet just fell down when i removed the tank - all mucky brown and unreadble in 3 pieces. If u pulled that plastic sheet out now without dropping the tank then i would imagine what was left is now all balled up or torn to pieces. Sorry for the bad news but i tried to reach mine several times without luck before dropping the tank. But that paper really is just rotting away and depending where the car lives more or less than others. What i'm saying is there may not be enough left for CSI or the CIA or even NASA to determine from bacterial poop.
But don't get so bent up on it as eventhough i did find mine i need to wear plasitic gloves to touch it with some flat support to hold it and can't read anything that makes sense - just the typeset letters that are so blurred they all look the same. cardo0
When I took the gas tank out of my 75 the build sheet was stuck to the top of the gas tank. But it was so old and yellowed it was unreadable. I could make out a couple of words, but it was not what I was hoping to find. I removed what I could and placed it in a vinyl plastic sheet for safekeeping with the other documents of my rebuild.
I have heard that sometimes they used to take the build sheet, and roll it up and stick it in a plastic tube, and put it in the oil pan. You should drop the pan and check. Maybe replace the rear main seal as long as you have the pan off.
Obviously, I'm just pulling your leg, but don't get all upset about the build sheet, man. Plenty of us don't have a build sheet, and we all still enjoy the hell out of our Corvettes!
There are reports of finding copies of build sheets tucked in the wiring behind the speedo and tach, tucked in the wiring behind the center cluster, behind either kick panel, tucked in the springs under a seat, and on the floor of the rear storage compartment under the carpet.
Hunt4CleanAir has a pic of a 78 build sheet folded and tucked in the rear spring mount.
