Where would the smog system on a 68 be located? and did all 68's have this?

Did they have a smog system other than a PCV valve (and maybe an EGR valve)?

My '74 only has PCV & EGR.

Not sure, a friend of mine said to check if my dads 68 still has the "smog system".

The bottom pic shows the "heart" of the smog system, which is the A.I.R. pump(Air Injector Reactor). All it was is a pump with "vanes" inside which takes fresh air and forces it through the rubber hoses to the small tubes going to the exhaust manifolds. This "fresh air" provides more oxygen to help complete the combustion process of the air/fuel mixture as it exits the exhaust manifolds

ALL 1968 & 1969 CORVETTES HAD THIS PUMP from the factory regardless of engine/transmission combos.

Wildman,
Invest in a 1968 Assembly Instruction Manual. It's money well spent.

No, not all 68's had it only like cali cars did off towards the west. I'm in my 40's I was around these cars when they were new I have saw many without it and I love in NC and no the owner hadn't taken it off.

I gotta support Paul on this one--everything I've read says they all had it, even the L88, which was nothin' but a freakin' racecar on street tires.

Well I'm sure not a vette know it all so I might be wrong on this. Do you have pictures of your engine bay so I can see what the system looks like I never saw what he showed in the picture above on all the 68's I had.

Keep in mind these were often removed since there was no such thing as smog inspections (hells, people remove them from much newer models even when there ARE inspections)...so unless you saw many in dealerships (in 68 and 69) that didnt have them then its likely youve seen a car that had it removed.
