Default Replacement seat belts...

Well... I was wondering why my seatbelts wouldn't retract this weekend, and now I know why. After taking them apart, since they were already broken, they were rusted and rotted beyond repair. The coil mechanism wouldn't budge an inch.

Anyways... I need two new seat belts for my '75. Do the belts from Zip include the retraction coil that tightens the belt? It doesn't look like it in the picture. I basically need to replace the entire system for both passenger and driver... and I need to do it before I go to inspection.

I saw a thread somewhere around here about new belts, but I can't find it in the search for the life of me.

Correct belts are expensive, if you can find them, a lot of us have used late model Camaro or Firebird belts to replace them. See this thread

I've actually got a working set in a box in my attic I'd be willing to sell. They are beige and not much to look at but they work fine. I went to camaro seat belts since my car isn't original.

Yes If you didn't have shoulder belts, you can come around the top of the seat. I can't find a thread with pictures right now. Some that had the slot, have threaded it.

I sent my seat belts in to Ssnake-oyl and had them do a rebuild. My lower retractors we shot as well. They replaced my lower retractors with new ones, they looked slightly different than the originals. They fit just fine in the wells and work better than the old ones.

How much did it cost you?

How come one of the corvette parts companies like Mid America make reproduction corvette seatbelts. Made exactly like the originals? It would make life so much easier...and cheaper

Do you mean "don't" make reproduction seatbelts?

Thank your friendly neighborhood lawyer and/or insurance company. The liability risk involved with seatbelts must be prohibitive.

I'm guessing the cost of manufacturing is what's prohibitive...don't the catalogs still have the non-retracting lap belt replacements?

I put in the F-Body belts in my 73 coupe. If your 75 vert had rear shoulder belts then these will work for it.

My rebuilt seat belts by SSnake-oly cost about $450. They rewebed, polished or rechromed the buckle, replaced both lower retractors, cleaned up the upper retractors, cleaned and polished the latch, cleaned the covering for the latch side and replated the guide bars that go in the well. If you send in the assemblies they will give you an itemized quote of all work that needs to be done before they start. Then you can decide if it is what you want.

Is there a seatbelt retractor in the 1968?, I have a 69 and I don't think I have a retractor.

I bought a set of retractable shoulder belts from here, unfortunatly all they have is black, but that what color I'm redoing my interior in anyways.

They aren't "factory" looking, but they are a direct bolt in and look pretty good.
