Well my tailights work just not as bright as I would like. How hard would it be to convert to leds in the rear tailights. I didnt think it was a plug n play situation. Dont the leds also use alot less energy then normal lights and last a whole lot longer?

Yes the LED does draw less power. I can get any number blub in LED style which will produce more light with less draw and the simply plug right into your harness and fit right into your original lense. Check them out. This link is for a 1157 in a LED style. Its in blue but you can use red. And I should be able to get clear. Since my car will be blue I am using Blue reverse or clear and red in behind my stop lights.

Dayum! $30.00 for just 2 bulbs? Vs $2.39 for 2 standard 1157's? Think I'll just clean my lenses!

I run LED's in my '61 using the $8 LED bulbs from any parts store. I do NOT run them in my '69 because they do not directly face the lens and look a little goofy with a poor light pattern. They also were too directional to feed my fiber optics.

If your tail light housing has a bulb that directly faces the lens it would work fine.

I like the LEDs because it gives the guy behind you a few extra feet to stop since they light up a fraction of a second quicker than incandescants - it can amount to enough difference to prevent being just missed to having him 4 feet into your car!!

Not yet I am just putting my rear bumper on this weekend. So I am going to order a set and try them and I will take pictures and if you guys like them and I can get a good price on them. I will bring a bunch in. Looking at my catalog I can do them for about $15us a pair. and then about $5 shipping. But i will verifiy stock and bulb numbers on Monday.

I just went to a street rod show, a company called HayWire has a set that you would glue in. They are @ 3" and are design for Taillights and are extremely bright. They say if don't put LED in the front you will not have any problems. Now for the bad part $89 pair.

I just tried a set of red 1157 LED bulbs from Pepboys, but they were noticabley dimmer than the standard 1157, so I pulled them back out. I was a bit dissapointed. I really expected them to be brighter.

Ok here's the deal I have ordered in the reds 1157 and the blues 1156 for reverse. And one of my suppliers have clears. So I am going to get a bunch in and do a test take pictures and post them. And then we can figure out whats what. Most likely I will do it this weekend. Since I am on road all week. I will keep you updated, just hang tight.
