Hi y'all,
I just bought a pair of 82 seats to put into my 75 coupe. They are in real good condition, but are dark blue in color.I would like to dye them black.Has anyone tried dyeing their seats, and how did the dyeing hold up?Are there any problems with doing this
change?Thanks!
First you need to determine what material they are made with. If they are original, then only the seating surface is leather; the rest is vinyl. If they are after market, then they could be all leather, all vinyl or both.
Thanks for the reply PhotoVette1.I'll check that out.
Does that mean you need a different dye for leather, and vinyl?I'm also wondering how the dye holds up.
Does it wear off with use?Or does it stay permanetly?
Anyone with experience know?
I used Molecubond (Walmart)-now renamed Colorbond on my tan to black 82 vinyl seats. They dont scratch and it turned out pretty good and still looks great 3 years later.
Do an internet search and you'll find info on this. Says it penetrates leather & vinyl, unlike vinyl spray paint, which some vendors try to call vinyl dye, which sits on top only and can scratch off over time.
That's interesting MN-Brent, I never knew that " it penetrates leather & vinyl, unlike vinyl spray paint, which some vendors try to call vinyl dye, which sits on top only and can scratch off over time . I would imagine that the Molecubond (Walmart)-now renamed Colorbond is also much less expensive. Has anyone else try this brand?
Thanks for the info.
Something I forgot to mention is that it may be difficult and sometimes impossible to match the interior colour. I have Silver.
