Default Any re-chrome experiences?

I'm getting down to some of the more "cosmetic" details on my restoration now as well. The next obvious ones are some of the original parts that were chromed are in desperate shape. The luggage rack and the original rally rims have some chrome flaked off an rust happening.

WHat the experience with re-chroming the original pieces? How do you prep them and where to get the chromed and what did it cost?

The only prep I did was unbolting them and driving the chrome to the chrome shop. $250 for everything minus the front bumper.

Rechroming is getting more expensive every day...be prepared for sticker shop! Be aware you can get show quality vs. driver quality. Something like a luggage rack has to be taken apart and each piece done individually; might save a few bucks dismantling it yourself, but that would be up to your chromer. Sometimes cheaper to buy new!

I sent mine to www.justchromeit.com. I DO NOT RECCOMEND THEM.

Absolutely horrible experience. I sent an original Air Cleaner lid. They sent me back a Chysler lid and then tried to convince me that it would fit. This company used to be great but the owner passed away and a son or son-in-law took it over. In the end they admitted they lost my lid, they found a dinted lid, did a shonky chrome job on it and I sent it back twice. And don't even start me on shipping and cost. It would have been cheaper and 4 months faster to buy new.

Some people should not be in business.

If you cannot go to the shop where they chrome then forget about it.

My preference is to buy pieces rechromed already. You can inspect the quality and then if you are happy send back the cores when you have the new peices installed.

Anyway good luck.

Pete

Especially on common items such as rims.

Which begs the question, where do you buy already re-chromed pieces for core exchange on a C3?

Bumper Boyz from california are at most of the big car shows. I saw them at Carlisle in August last year and also in Moultree, Georgia last last year. They carry a TRUCKLOAD of re-chromed bumpers with them.

Here is some negative feedback on them also:

I don't know if I am being helpful here. Bottom line is to see the chrome work in person and if you are happy then buy.
