Default Eckler Covette Hatchback

Hi everyone I am new to this forum. I saw a great 76 Corvette hatchback for sale over the weekend and would like to know more about it. The guy said it was an Eckler. Were they made by Eckler or was it just aftermarket conversion packages added to the car?

Any help you can give would be great.

Eckler's makes/sells fiberglas panels/kits for Corvettes. They do not make or modify Corvettes:

You may be talking about the rear window hatch conversion kit Ecklers used to sell. It has been discontinued quite a few years ago and sells for megabucks on eBay. From what I've read around here there were TONS of problems with leaks.

Yes the corvette is a wide body kit with the hatch back. So is this thing worth anything?

Parts from the underlying vehicle (chassis, motor, interior, etc.) may have some value. If the car is a quality conversion, it may have some collector value to someone who is into this type of conversion, but I would hesitate to guess this is a very limited market.

Weird mid-year...

The best non-wagon to wagon conversion I've ever seen was a '67-'68 Mustang with the rear top of a Ford Country Squire wagon grafted in, but still preserving the exterior contour of the rear fenders. That car looked natural - Corvette conversions just look weird, IMO.

If you squint your eyes a little, it could be the AMC Pacer Prototype. Just look at that huge rear window.

Here's one I found on a guy's web-site --- it was for sale - I tried to track the guy down and buy it, but never could.

and a second with the wide body kit at the local Corvette resto shop:

I would have my doubts that it was an original Eckler's conversion ------------------ from what I found out, they only produced 2 cars ! One of them was in corvette parts magazine about a year ago for sale for $26,000.00 ........... less than what I've sunk into mine ! If it is a complete kit --- it should have all the flares, the hatchback, and the front spoiler. (and possibly the molded rear spoiler) I found mine back in 1996 and didn't know Ecklers had built them ---- just that they were unusual ! I think this is what you're talking about !!! Rick
