Of course, the engine could have been changed prior to sale as noted above... The lack of documentation doesn't help either.
I had a brief conversation with John Maher at this springs VetteFest, during which he told me he does, in fact, have documentation including the tank sheet for his car.

Looks like the jury is still out on this one.

Very interesting!
Im sure that very few blocks exist! Point being its rare be it two ZL-1 corvettes or Four? Only God Gib and Zora know for sure

Hey if he smoked everyone at the track then i guess he is allowed to call it a ZL1. I love these old kill stories. Being 20 i didn't get to see those days when the old muscle cars were out rockin it everyday. These stories make me wish i was there.

I guess I am fortunate enough to have been born at the right time. I was 16 in 1970, and remember seeing these great musclecars like Boss 302 & 429's, Hemi & 440 SIX PACK Cuda's and Challengers, Shelby GT 500's, AMX's & Javelins. etc.

THIS: is the only "real" white 1969 ZL1, but AFAIK it was never sold to the public

His last post was in 2011. Try calling his phone number, maybe he's still an enthusiast....

My 1968 was used by the Tech Center to lay up the ZL1 nose stripe. It was sold to a GM Engineer in Feb 69 with the ZL1 stripe, I have photos from then. The photos match the assembly manual design exactly. My Car is a While L71 Coupe.
I have Tech Center documents but would love first hand knowledge of how the stripe came to be designed (did Zora design the paint scheme for the ZL1?)

Marty Schorr wrote of testing a black ZL-1 in 1969 for a magazine article. From what I remember about the story, the car came out of the press fleet... Did it really exist
Yep. I chased it for years, front was folded up pretty bad the owner killed himself in it after he returned from Nam.

That was back in the 90s, coulda had it for 10k. Had a good friend, local expert give me hell for the "wild goose chase"...til he saw pics of it.
He himself had a few L88s he too was convinced it was real also.
