what problems (other than tire wear) are associated with overinflating and/or underinflating tires.
most passenger tires call for somewhere around "35 psi max". i often hear manufacturers recommending pressures somewhere in the low to mid 20 psi range (someone posted here the other day that this was on their 77? vette door jam). isn't underinflating by 40-50% or more hard on the sidewalls?? then again, i hear of some autocrosses taking the same tires and running at 45, 50 and higher psi's all the time with no apparent problems. or am i all wrong about this and "anything goes" as long as it isn't flat or doesn't blow up???????

Under inflated, remember the Ford Explorer? That was its main problem, under inflated tires causing the blow outs. I would not run the tires under inflated by too much. Besides it will cause unnecessary tire wear and generate lots of heat in the tire itself.
