Internal Frame Rust
I have a 4 wheeler that I use for plowing snow. The brackets for the blade are tubular steel. They rust inside from the snow. I sprayed the inside of the tubes with rust inhibitor and then got a can of spray foam. I used a longer hose on it so the foam would fill the whole pipe. Its going on 15 years now, it still rusts on the outside but seems solid. Was wondering if anyone ever tried this on thier frame? It would keep the moisture and air out.

Well, since the frames on these old sharks are just stitch welded, there are tons of places for water/moisture to work its way into the frame, and what with road vibration and all encouraging that action, and wind driven rain.....forgetaboutit....
all it will do is encourage rust/water pockets that will hasten the rust out....never drying...

You right. Frame has a lot more holes and does a lot more flexing than tubes. The foam does expand to fill all of the nooks and crannys though. My frame is good with just a little surface rust. Wasn't going to try it. Just wondering if anyone ever did.

There have been discussions over some new products like that in the past couple years, some guys have done it, maybe one or two, but in general I think most guys agree with me in that it's a bad idea....
I think maybe the foam guys are looking to stiffen the frame for total performance racing...not so much rust prevention....I fergit...

keep the dirt/sand/crap out of it, let it dry out, and pray, I guess....

In more rural areas, used motor oil is recyled into frame rails.
I've seen several places when driving around Northern VT.
In more "civilized" areas, Ziebart and like companies will spray
the insides with a waxy compound. I almost bought the equipment
at my auto parts store ... buy 2 gallons and get the sprayer setup
for $99. I figured that my 'vette will never see rain - intentionally,
so it won't be a big issue.

Internal Frame Rust
I tried a lot of rust reformers, never seemed to work. If you scratched through the black coating the rust was still there. Remember back in the service, we used to have some stuff nicknamed blue death. Fumes were terrible. After you coated the rust with this it would turn black also, but if you hit it with a chipping hammer and managed to break a piece off. It was black all the way down to the steel.

Foam ? Well, I would not want to weld on it afterwards.Spray coating may be done as suggested,but again,if you need to weld on it afterwards........
Rudders on ships are "float coated" with cosmoline,but gas freed and cleaned for prep before repairs by welding.....even with those precautions,you should see the flames from that !!!

What about galvanizing the frame ,I was just at a galvanizing plant and asked if they would do a frame they said sure ,one guy said it would make the frame heavy though,I might just have them dip it in the acid tank to clean the rust for 180 bux ,whadda ya think

Think I would UT the frame (Ultrasonic gaging) before I threw to much mula at it though.

If you're going through all the work to remove the frame, you can always 'just' replace it with a new frame and be good for another 20+ years.
