I love my vette (Chucks old L88) and the power it produces, but I would like to reduce the sound and noise it makes, reducing the power only slightly.
The car has a 427 L88 engine producing 500 rwhp, and a set of hooker side pipes installed with JCL turbo spirals (uncapped).
I can cap the JCL's and loose 40 HP and reduce sound level by approx. 3 DB, which is not the way I want to go as I do not want to loose 40 HP.
I have read that the Cobras are experimenting using Supertrap discs mounted to the end of side pipes - actually two 3.5" supertraps mounted next to each other, reducing sound levels dramatically, but only reducing HP by 12 on a 544 HP engine.
Chuck has an idea of installing a second exhaust system with a switch that can toggle between the side pipes and the under car exhaust – although this would work this, to me, seems too complicated and would require too much custom manufacturing for my taste.
Has anyone got ideas or experience for how sound levels can be reduced dramatically sacrificing horsepower only slightly
I wish JCL would make and adjustable baffle. Similar to the way they are now only with the baffles on hinges, linked together with either a cable or electric actuator. At wot you could have them automatically open.
