3-inch pipes on car---necessarily going to bang ground?
I recently had a set of 3" pipes installed along with a new AR Racing 406 in my 80' Vette. The pipes are WAY low to the ground. I catch every single speed bump and even if there is a dip in the road I often bottem out.
There is a quick rise and fall in the concrete at work, and I'm sure it would totally screw up the exhaust. So I can't even drive it to work.
The guy who did the work blamed it on the 3" pipes and said he didn't think there was anything that could be done.
Thoughts on whether he is right or wrong?
I really wanted to use is as a daily or at least semi-daily driver. This is a huge setback if he is right.

sounds like hes right....my 2 1/2" pipes are flattened so they are oval shaped....and even with that i have only 5 1/4" of clearance....
do they go through the crossmembers?

I have no ground clearance problems with my 3 inch exhaust, had to get a pre '80 crossmember with the holes though. Once you get into this real high performance stuff it starts to cost real money to do it right

Why did they stop putting holes there in '80?
Glad to know it can be done.

it costs beer and its sitting behind my garage....you need to weld back in the pieces i cut out of the exhaust "holes" so i could remove the old exhaust, i'm located at the Jersey Shore by Belmar. It has to be picked up i will not ship it.
