Had the A/C repaired on my daily driver recently (needed a new
condensor), and was also very surprised to see how expensive
it is now (the price has tripled here in Canada). I was told
that they are phasing it out. Stock up!
I ask my local refrigeration guy and he said with r-12 stocks finally depleted and not a lot of good substitutes [stay away from the propane ones] r 134 is in the cat bird's seat. So the chemical companies will charge accordingly. Isn't it nice to live in a free market society?
Was talking with my mechanic/friend today and he told me if I wanted him to do any further AC work, I would have to supply my own freon. He said his last "tank" of R-134 cost him $80. He recently went to purchase another and they wanted $400.
its cheaper to get the 1 lb cans at carquest than auto zone,,,believe it or not,,,autozone wants 12.99 a can--carquest is 9.50 a can........i bought 6 cans last week.from carquest,,,,the reason its up is there was a big explosion at the plant that makes it ,,,so its supply and demand,,
