As far as I know, GM never published how many convertibles had what engine or suspension. There is no way to determine if there were only 400 made of such and such a combination.
due to financial matters I am considering selling my baby of 20 years.Ecklers has infirmed me that this 427 convertable w/ jim kona susspesion is 1 of 400 built .I have dreams of barrotts big bucks,a local car broker thought 100k....I know I will need the build sheet and what other methods of verification are available? :
Is the 1 in 400 for all of the options on the car, or just for the suspension option?
If for the combination, the 1 in 400 designation is synthesized using the statistical method outlined in the Corvette Black Book where you keep on using percentages against the total produced to produce an approximate number of matches to the car.
I.E. if there were 1000 total produced , 500 of which were red and 200 of which were convertibles, you can estmate that there were 1000*.5*.2=100 red convertibles produced that year.
The black book does list the number of orders for individual options, so it makes a bit of a difference in just how 'rare' the car is.
If GM had the exact numbers for all combinations, we'd all have factory build sheets as that is where the data would have come from and we know all of the early build sheets are gone.

Does it have the aluminum heads? That would make it 1 of 390 L89's if they're original to the car. Pretty close to what Ecklers quoted if so
How many miles on it and how original is it. Has it undergone a body off restoration? If not totally primo the L89's are not commanding the $100K very often.
