Default Need a Windshield Solution for '69 L46

My windshield is heavily pitted. Even when clean of all dirt, bright sunlight or on-coming headlights are more than annoying.

I have heard of polishing that may remove the light pitting but am not aware of a local operation that does this.

I am aware of a local 'in your driveway' source to install a windshield for approx $200. Obviously, this is not date-coded glass... Date coded glass is north of $350...

Recommendations wanted.

I'd call glass shops in your area. There are several here in Baltimore that will "polish" glass/windshields. They use a special compound, the name escapes me at the moment. (Selenium?)

IF there are scratches that you can catch your fingernail in, they can't polish those out. If it's "sand sparkle", you might get some improvement. You can't polish too much, as you'll be grinding an optical effect into the windshield, much like a pair of glasses for astigmatism.

Although I have NO experience with this, I've heard that many of the cheapo windshields are thinner than the originals, and that the fit of the trim around them when installed isn't "great". Chuck
