What type of headers should I run on my '79.
I do not want side pipes. I want good performance and good looks under the hood.

If your engine is stock a 1 5/8" headers is good enough. As the brand theres a lot of good headers from just black to jet hot coated, but if you want just something that look and sound good a set of dynomax headers is good enough. That's what i have. Make sure you get a good set of gasket and you will be ok.

how much for a set & is the jet hot the best coating for a "crome" like appearance?

I used to run hooker on my old 4x4 - they made a big difference and sounded great. Did not know for the corvette.

I have the Dynomax ceramic coated headers on my '74. The 1-5/8 primaries may be "too small" for my 406, but I won't argue with the results.

I have a 350 in the car now (not original). It has a nice cam in it - not sure what size - in the car when I got it. The plate on the side of the block says bored 0.010 so it should use the 1 5/8" openings.

I learned my lesson on gaskets with my old truck. gotta get good ones and keep the headers tight (but not too tight) to keep a good seal.

All of the smog control stuff is gone - thank God I am in a state that does not have strict controls on that.

Dynomax here. Looks pretty good. Not exactly chrome but close enough and the price is right!

I am running Hooker Competition Headers part number 2451HKR

Hooker Competition Headers

I had mine ceramic coated by a guy here locally. I know guys that have put POR-15 on thier headers and it only lasts a year or two. Definetely go ceramic coated, protects the headers and keeps temperatures down under the hood. Stainless would be the ultimate but we're talking lots of $$$.

Another thing - switching to headers will have a tendancy to lean out your air/fuel mixture so you will want to jet your carb a little richer. A leaner air/fuel mixture means higher exhaust temps. If your exhaust is too hot the ceramic coating finish will dull and not last as long.

I just picked these up:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMEWN%3AIT

They may not be the best brand, but I couldnt pass them up for $185!

Aren't they pretty!

The Dynomax Corvette SB Cerama-Coat headers fit & flow great, much better than is commonly known. Have been rec. them & many have them now.

Fireslayer26
Those are probably made by Dynomax- if not they are a copy.

Hooker Super Comp are also very good.

I went with these:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...MEWN%3AIT&rd=1

Couldn't resist the price and they look good. Should receive them today. When they wear out, maybe I can afford ceramic ones...
