On the front of the engine on the passenger side where the head meets the engine block there will be a machined surface (called the pad) that contains the last 5 or 6 digits of your VIN AND also another (separate) number that denotes where the engine was made (starts with a V for flint Michigan or a T for Tonawanda), numbers that denote the build date of the motor, and a suffix that tells the options that came with the motor.
Mine reads V327HP which denotes a small block engine built in Flint Michigan on March 27 and HP are the initials for the L&( 350 horsepower motor with Power Brakes, Power steering and A/C.
If you find the numbers, many on this forum have the books to decipher them for you and will be glad to help.

The other number is the VIN derivative that was stamped on the engine pad during final car assembly.
