IMA 66

Is there anyway i can tell what engine is in my car L48/L82? I don't have the build sheet and the guy i got it from wasn't sure either way. It feels pretty strong but just wanted to see if there is any other way of identifying the two engines.

what are the numbers on the stamp pad on the block just in front of the passenger side valve cover?

This website might help you. Also, depending on the year of the car, that will determine what the suffix is. For example, a 1978 L-82 with a manual transmissioin will have CMR as its suffix. A 1978 L-48 with a maunual transmissioin will have a suffix of CHW. A good source for these suffix's are found in the Corvette Black Book. But the website I have listed below should do the trick for now. By the way, the suffix is preceding the number on the block (which usually has the last 4 or 5 numbers of the VIN stamped on the block) as the previous CF member (SB69Coupe) stated.

looks like it is an L48 according to the 5th letter J in the Vin. Thanks for the help guys

Well, the J in VIN tells you what engine was in the car when it left the factory. It does not tell you what engine is in the car as it sits today. Unless you verify that the stamp pad numbers match the VIN of the car, you still don't REALLY know what is under the hood.

Also many L-48's are rebuilt to far more than L-82 so the stamp means nothing if rebuilt.

Stamp pad matches Vin and engine is still stock no rebuilds. Car runs stronger then i thought it would though so i am very happy
