Last winter I replaced everything on my 82's air conditioning system. I used a Delco rebuilt compressor because I was told they were the best. This spring I was under the hood and notice the compressor is starting to leak oil already. All rebuilds I have looked at only carry a one year warranty. I need to replace it but I would like to get one that last more than one season. If I have to I will buy a new one if it will last longer. The system was switched over to R134 and I know it runs at higher pressure, but I thought all rebuilds were compatable.
Is there an after market compressor made that carries a better warranty and bolts on?
Go with the modern Sanden compressor. Vintage Air sells it new for $199 (I think), and a custom bracket to fit the small block Chevy, too, for $99. www.vintageair.com
BTW: Rebuilt compressors are the "luck of the draw." I have a no-name rebuilt R4 compressor, and it's been going strong 3 years now... (Keeping my fingers crossed!)
Before going through all that trouble, try a can of AC stop leak. I used to think they were snake oil until my beater car developed a decent AC leak. I had to add a can every 3 weeks. I popped in a can of stop leak and it has sealed perfectly for over a year now.
the air compressors leak a little oil. That's why some folks sell a little splash guard that keeps the oil from flying up and hitting the inside of the hood.

Wish GM had done that from the factory on mine. Over the years, the light mineral oil that leaked out of the A-6 saturated my original perfect fitting BB hood all the way through! I'm slowly getting it out, but I'm afraid it's never going to be right. I made my own shield.
Thanks for the advise. Unfortunately my compressor is leaking more than a little. Will probably look into the saden compressor from vintage air. Most of the new compressors I have looked at are around $250 anyway.
