Default Locking Header Bolts - Which ones???

Thinking about some locking header bolts. Anyone have experience with either of these two types??

Stage 8

http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerc...79&prmenbr=361

Breslin Split Lock

http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerc...24&prmenbr=361

Both of these types seem way to complicated. Seems like I'll never get all those fitted washers and clips on the Stage 8 bolts, and the split locks seem questionable to me. Will thread lock work at all? What do you guys think?

Joe

those stage eights didn't fit on my SBC headers, not on the hooker 1 7/8th headers or the custom 1 3/4 headers. maybe if you are running 1.5 inch tubes...

I have the Stage 8 on my headers. I am not so sure of the diameters but I do know the do not leak. I used to have to tighten my bolts after every long cruise or once every other ride. I have not touched them since installation.

I used the stainless ARP 12pts that were drilled for saftey wire. 10 minutes to wire 'em up after a few heat cycles and be done with it.

No fussing with little clips that drop into the darkeness never to be seen again.

Stage 8's with Earls header gaskets here with no problems after about 2,000 miles. The washers will require some grinding to get the right fit. Easiest way is to put them in a vise and use an angle grinder. I was able to put on the more buried retaining clips with just my fingers. I especially like the allen head bolts. An allen wrench works a lot better around headers than a hex head.

The split locks look like the best from a technical standpoint...

Like that too! Although wiring up drilled bolts is simple to do. Looks trick too.

I've got the Stage 8, which work great and look trick, but they're a PITA to install. I wouldn't want to futz around trying thread wire though tiny holes either. Don't know about a small block but some of the header bolts on a BB are are a real pain to reach. I'd have to say the Breslin bolts look the easiest to work with, but I don't have any experience with them. I can only assume they hold tight. I know GSC3 was going to order a set, but don't know how they worked for him.

You got a picture showing your wiring method? Just curious.

Thanks

Earl's header & collector seals with plain ol header & collector bolts. Haven't touched either since installation.

On my 68 I used the dead aluminum gaskets with stainless allen head bolts, and have not touched them in over two years.
Dynomax headers.

Wow, I'm suprised that no one recommended header studs. That's what I'm using now and I've been very pleased with them.
