i have been looking for a folding canvas t-top and if anyone wants to sell there's to me in a month or so that would be great..... my tops are sort of screwed up and i figured that since my vette will only be a cruiser i wouldn't really want to carry those big things around anyways.... money is tight right now but would be interested in a month....
yeah...searched e-bay...no luck.... i wonder if i have to go diggin in a salvage yard or something....are these tops rare?...... i was going to fabricate my own if i can but i need some sort of reference to do it..i.e. pics of one........ is there a vender that sells them..... i searched that also and all i got was those astro tops..... i'd rather have a canvas folding one..
I believe you will find they are vinyl. They are available from several vendors now with a velcro fastening system. I do not know how well they fit and perform at speed.
The one in the pic was patented in 1980 or so. It uses OEM-style fastening handles and pins. I carried them in my 1979 and they were very nice and secure fitting units.
I believe the manufacturer went out of business in 1986. But they do turn up on Ebay from time-to-time.
i like the ones with the original fastening system... i'm not too fond of the velcro setup.....maybe i'll try to fabricate one up and see if it'll work....
Mark,
You make an important point. The 1978- t-tops use a male pin/female body bracket fastening system at the rear. Earlier than that it was a form of triangle-shaped protuberance from the body that grabbed the t-top. Entirely different although the later pin-type body bracket could be retrofitted. If you can find those brackets....
