the number on the block that contains part of the vin, what does that first number stand for? mine is like 18S then the vin derivitive but what does the 1 stand for because the block number matches the vin but the first number on the block is a 1 and my vin is 78S....block is 18S.... everything but the 1 and the 7 match. it is a 68. I assume the first number on the block means something else or something because I know the original owner and the engine is original to the car and it is not a re stamp the broch marks are clear and everything is lined up perfect.
again block number starts out 18S vin is ....78S...... so the number before the S on the block and on the vin are different so what does that mean? or maybe the factory didn't inprint the 7 good on the block and looks like a 1?
The last 6 digits of the vin is what's important showing on the engine block. I don't have a book handy but I think the "1" is for Chevrolet division, 8 is for the year of the car, and "s" for corvette.
From what you posted these numbers are correct for your car.
