Well, again you all were right in past postings. I climbed under our '80 today with a flashlight and there it is just peeking out above the gas tank...the build sheet!
It's going to be a while before I pull the tank to get at it, but I'm really looking forward to seeing if it's at all readable. Looks pretty tattered from what I can see of it.
I looked with a flashlight at mine and it looked tattered also,(this is on a 69)droped the tank anyway(took about 3 hours to drop and reinstall) when I got to the build sheet it was gas stained on 50% of it and very detierated, but right where the option catigory was it was untouched!very important as the car is a L71 427,I diddnt try to remove it(to much glue)I would have destroyed it!Tooked some good Pics of it then took plastic from a seal a meal and sealed over it for the next guy (left it there)and reinstalled.
Thats great news! Glad you both found your Build Sheets.
I hope Im just as lucky with my vette...but based on the history (well I should say LACK OF known history) I don't think It will be there. Im keeping my fingers crossed though for when I do get a chance to look...wouldn't it be a nice surprise!
A lot of times you can remove the muffler on the drivers side, and carefully remove the sheet using a scraper. Be careful and take your time. The area where the glue is will be difficult to read anyway........LT

3 years ago when I bought my vette after it had been stored for 12 years, the gas tank was rotten and had to be replaced. I was pleasantly surprised to find my build sheet when the tank was dropped, although a third of it was missing.
I bought my vette in early April, Ive been dealing with transport and shipping ever since...it leaves LA in a few days now and doesn't get to Sydney until early August..........its really sucks waiting so long for something Ive already paid for...and I haven't even seen it yet!!!!
