What is it?

I have a '78, I found directly below the steering column at the base of the dash a ****. I pulled it down and could here vacuum escaping. What is it and what does it do?

It makes your headlights pop up, if it works......

If it is what I think it is, once your headlights are in the up position, the switch, when pulled, will keep them in the up position.

Really, I wonder if thats the reason I get them to pop up. Would make sense. Although I pulled the headlight switch and pulled the **** and they didn't come up then so I'm geussing it doesn't work. Thanks

If you hear hissing, one of the hoses has become disconnected, or possibly the switch is broken/cracked. Chuck
