Default a/c problems R12 to 134

My a/c in my 75 has worked pretty faithfully every year til now. I blew a hose and subsequently lost all my remaining freon.. Now of course it is no longer available and I have to convert to 134. Question: Is it a simple conversion? or am I better off to buy a whole new system? Thanks...

I converted my 86 IROC Camaro last year. I took it to the dealer they flushed the condensor and the evaporator. I picked up a change over kit at Autozone and the compressor was shot so I put a new one on before I took it in to them. It works good I think they charged me about 150.00. The only difference I know of is that your system may not be the cycling kind of system it may be the type where the compressor runs all the time. I understand that there is a valve that can be changed to make the compressor cycle on and off. I asked around at several different places where I have auto repairs done to make sure I would not get screwed. The system works very good.

If it was working pretty well, why don't you just get it refilled with R12?

R-12 is harder to find and alot more expensive.

The conversion is not too difficult, and is usually cheaper than refilling with R-12. Check around at reputable shops.
