Found Build Sheet
The previous thread inspired me to look for my build sheet. I took out the rubber gasket and used a flashlight to take a peek. There it was to the middle left side of the top of the gas tank! I made a tool to scope it out with not much problem. Too bad but I can bearly read any numbers on the sheet. I am going to scan it then print it on photographic paper to preserve it. Why don't people pull these things out right away and save them? Hope you have better luck.

congrats...I hope Im as lucky...Im going to drop the tank to see if I can find mine...cause I heard the build sheets are soooooooo fragile - will just crumble...so I figure if it is there I want to preserve it as much as I can!

Great looking car !!! I have a piece of the "build sheet" that came with my car, but I don't know if it's the tank sticker, or if was from one of the other copies. I'd love to do what u did, but I've been afraid to try and pull that rubber gasket out... looks kinda fragile after all these years.
Any secrets to doing that you'd like to share?

Now for the good news. I have TWO build sheets. One came off the tank and is just readable. The other came from under the carpet on the passenger side. It has also been reported that the build sheet can be found under the passenger seat.
I made a good scan of my build sheets then printed the best one out and had it laminated and stuck it back to the tank. If you have an electronic scan it will last forever. Paper copies will fade unfortunately.

I need to do the exact same thing, and I'll use you for inspiration this weekend.
What type of tool did you end up fabricating? I'm guessing long, flat and blunt, but I guess i need to see the situation.

Mine was on the right side of the tank (somewhat unusual) and was almost sideways. The good thing about that was that it actually protected the sheet leaving it very legible.
One thing to do when you first get to the sheet it to take a can of compressed air (an air compressor may be too strong unless you turn the pressure way down). Many times just giving it a light shot of air will blow the dirt and grime off it enough to read some of it. But as mentioned, be careful as it can crumble if you go to rough on it.

yours is in really good shape compared to mine though I was able to read all the options

I made a tool from an old "pancake flipper" and scooped under it. The sheet came out very easly. It seemed to be held in place by one small spot. The rubber gasket came out easy also. I worked it up from the outside, slowly pulling it up through the opening. Then just pulled the rest up and out, gave it a good cleaning, now it looks great. The gasket went back in just as easy.

I read somewhere one time where a guy had some luck reading his illegible build sheet by viewing it with the "night vision" option turned on with his video camera. 
No build sheet on mine on the tank, under the seat, under the carpet, or anywhere else for that matter!
