Values aside......what are the performance differences between a 3-speed and a 4 speed????? Does it really make a difference ??? I only owned one 3 speed, and that was a '66 6cyl muzzy....so I'm actually serious about wanting to know what the difference is in a V8 Vette.........
Does anyone out there know of any other 1969 3 spd manual cars? I think I bought a rare car recently.
If it's a matching #s and documented car, and u like to drive it, then I'd leave it alone. Otherwise, I'd convert it to a 4 speed... and keep the 3 speed for the next owner to store in his garage
Amazing what I've stored over the years... original endura bumpers for GTOs... Corvette hardtops... ugly original wheels and tires... AMAZING
And I've got a pretty big box started for the 73, all for the sake of history.

You lose being at the top of the power curve for 1 gear. Try skipping a gear and then not. The rear end might be diff too.
Around town it don't matter, I mostly shift from 1st to 4th so a 2 spd?
Yeah, and it's no more special now then it was then. The 3 speed manual was the base trans, along with an open 336 diff. Posi, 4 spds, and TH400's were optional. They were made and "rare" but not a lot of guys want them. 1970 they were standard features.
You know what, I was wrong.
While not especially a high dollar rare feature it is still a 69 vette and I am sure the owner enjoys it, with or without the extra gear and possibly open diff. In fact the open diff's were stronger then the 63-68 posi's - in stock form
Always that one guy that wants to point out how old a thread is.... Who cares if its 14 years old .... Thanks for sharing.
Well there is another 3 speed from 1968, whitch i bought. It was cruising NY 2 months ago, now it sits in the middle of Europe :-) A lot of work have to be done, but iam happy with it.
I bet, there were left really low numbers of cars with 3spd, maybe under 100 till these days ?
