I don't remember the poster's name but a while back one of our members posted pictures and plans for some side shields he made. The really looked good. I printed out the post but we're in the process of moving and I packed up all my corvette stuff two days ago.
I think I may have been the first guy to go with Alec. His stock length is 27" but he said he can make them in 36" if there is interest. Also, he goes with Jet Hot for coating so they match Jet Hot coated sidepipes nicely.
P.S. - Just to blow my own horn, check out the Corvette on his web page.
They need some tweaking as I mentioned in the latter posts in that thread. Perhaps more standoff, but I'm planning on installing some muffler wrap in the gap and see what that gets me. They are much better as they are, but I'd like to get the temps down another 50 degrees or so.
Myne are I think from Patriot's side pipe offered by SUMMIT.
Problem is that you can't buy the shields alone, only as a set with the pipes, but the kit is cheap.
Presently, I do not have them installed , but still don't know what I like most. Problem with them on is that the pipes can not be cleaned and the 68 has no fender flares to keep the sh..t from the tire away.
