Default Muffler Bearings- Where????

The 75 i bought here locally had some strange noises coming out of the engine bay. I talked to a mechanic friend and he told me that most likely my muffler bearings are shot. He said he doesnt know where they are on c3's. He told me to look around the car so i did. He said i may have to pull the engine. I did that too. If anyone can point them out in the following pictures i would greatly appreciate it.

Car as it sits in the garage-

i cant see them in the engine bay???

My mechanic friend said that some older GMs have the muffler bearing housings in the interior... Cant find it here either...

Not in the front wheel well, right?

Rear???

And what would be a good transmission for a mildly built 502?

try extending your driveshaft and mount the one end directly to the flywheel....that would eliminate the trans and save weight....good for a better fuel mileage car.........

Your doing a good job at looking for the muffler bearings. I am sure they have fallen out by now and you could start cleaning the pieces and putting it back together.
Nice job.

Don't forget that you're supposed to change your blinker fluid whenever you replace the muffler bearings. Most people forget this important maintenance item!

I think you have to remove the birdcage to get to them.

Sometimes they are under the flux capacitor or more rarely under the tweeter valve. Often it takes a left handed screwdriver for removal.Once you get them out be sure and lube with some elbow grease.

Look for this:

It is in the trunk. Take it loose, and the bearings are behind there.

The thing that set '75's apart from earlier years was that it was the first year with no blinker fluid BUT the first year for the computer-controlled hydrolator valve.

Noobs...

I'm not sure if its true or not, but I been told the muffler bearing is prone to wearing and making noise unless you use high frequency grease. It should be available at most parts store, but you have to ask the person working the parts counter.

I can see from you pictures that you haven't changed your pfitzenfelter valve. Be sure to do that while it's apart, or you will never get it to fit correctly!

"O" Pipe

You've heard of the Y pipe.. the X pipe.. the H pipe.. nothing can touch the O pipe!!! It provides 100% backpressure feedback on ALL engines!! Torque increase and kuneutson valve float brings in much lower revs so you don't hurt your motor! Pipe shown is powdercoat black for car with DUAL EXHAUST. Not CARB Legal. Please specify Stainless or Powdercoat and also if you are using dual or single exhaust. 3" diameter.

You may need to add this to the list of parts needed to get back on the road. I also found
-Motor Block Oil Bypass Kit-

Modern synthetic oil is very expensive - so why run the risk of getting it dirty by running it through your motor block? KaleCo bypass kit comes with everything you need to run the oil around your motor block where it will do more good. Oil runs cooler, and as a result, there may be horsepower gains!
Enjoy all that newfound power.

Hey, Those muffler bearings that you are looking for are usually located right next to the henway, trouble is in finding the henway as they move around alll the time, only way to stop 'em from moving is to hit a good shot with a herbielever,,,,,,,,,,,,,Peace,,,,Craig
