Default 1972 Build Sheet ?

Based on everything I have discovered with this 72 Coupe ...so far....I suspect that the build sheet is still sitting on the top of the gas tank.

Is there any value in leaving it intact on the gas tank ?

If not....what is the easiest way to get to it ?

Thanks for any suggestions.......Fred

I ended up taking pic.s of the build sheet and putting plastic over it(leaving it glued to the tank)because there was so much glue holding it on I would have ruined it taking it off, other guys have been successfull getting them off that only had alittle glue holding them on.my suggestion is to get a razor scraper and get carfully under the glue if you want to take it off otherwise do what I did.

If you have the tank down and can see it clearly, before you do anything more than dust it off gently, take a couple of very good digital (or otherwise) pictures. At least then if it is destroyed and it will no doubt get damaged, you have a record of it for future use.

I was able to remove mine from my 73 pretty easily, but it did get damaged.

Go slow, and good luck.

Pulled mine last week. Was folded over on the wrong side of the tank and was very legible. I then sent it out to be duplicated by a member of the NCRS that does that sort of thing. I also scanned it and made copies.

I say pull it carefully and take pics before you touch it. A little compressed air to lightly blow it off will help alot but be careful as it will probably be very fragile.

Through the build sheet I was able to trace the car back to the original dealer and the original owner.

I dug mine out by removing the gas tank seal boot.
When you find it, scan on a flat bed scanner to keep it flat and most importantly print it on photographic paper so it will last.
I own a camera store, believe me.
I could not read anything but it was exceiting to find it.
