So norvalwilhelm, did the steering box change you did make a big change in the way the car handled? Was it worth the time and money?
I haven't installed one yet. It is part of next winters project. I was going to start on a rack and pinion setup. I am a fabricator and can easily put one together complete for under $300 and I was all ready to start but some very knowledgable people on the forum convinced me that the Jeep box was a better unit. After alot of posting and discussions I decided to go the jeep steering bix route. I will not start with a kit. I will cut out part of the frame and weld in a proper mount, this will require welding and beefing up the frame. I am going this route instead of the kit form because I feel I can do an even better job of the installation.
My existing stock rebuilt steering is very good but the odd time it acts funny. 99% of the time is steers just like my wifes rack and pinion but that 1% of the time it has a funny twitch that I don't like.
This October when the car goes away this is one of the first things I do.
For me building the rack and pinion was going to be a fun cheap project but there are things about the system I don't like.
To me the Jeep box is a neater better installation. It is not a add on system but a newly designed box. 99 and newer.
