Off the stock manifold with 2" , thru the cross member into 2 1/2". Add "H" pipe directly behind and into 4000 series Flowmasters with turned down chrome tips.$500.00. I have a perpetual smile. Awesome, Joe.

The purpose of a crossover pipe also called a balance pipe is to increase flow & power. When the pressure is higher in one side, some goes to the lower pressure side. A side benefit is to reduce "popping".

The ball and socket setup looks great. Any thoughts on what it would cost to have that installed? Since I have a 2 1/2 system, should I get a 2 1/2 ball and socket?

That's what I'm going to order. You can e-mail Dr. Gas with questions to be sure.

If you had to drop the system, what do you do about the cross member?

Does the ball and socket pass through the cross member?

The ball & socket joint will be behind (parallel to) the cross-member. So, unclamp the system from the intermediate pipe(s), undo the ball/socket, then pull down and back.

Why different locations in the crossover between your car & PRNDL's?
I was going to ask him the same question. They were done by the same shop, his about 2 years later than mine. My pipes are also straighter than his. Maybe a different guy did his. Here is another shot of mine. If you look carefully you can see the 4 inch truck style SS clamps right in front of the crossmember. That is where it comes apart also.

My car is '74 auto, SB, lowered w/2.5" Allen's exhaust.

Thanks in advance...

Um...except my header flanges won't pass through.

Does anyone have good luck with a a slip-fit using a band-clamp? Seems like they would still leak.

I am using a 4 inch SS band clamp right in front of the cross member. There is a little carbon seepage from it but I have had it running and put my hand around it and feel no leakage at all. I can have the exhaust on the floor in 15 minutes.

I just installed a Richmond Gear 6-Speed and was told that there was absolutely no way to install a cross over pipe (X or H) without losing major ground clearance. From the pics, this is obviously untrue. Are those exhausts installed on stock tranny apps (auto or man).

I don't have header flanges. Intermediate pipe to exhaust pipe via slip-fit.
