Default headlight door

I recently aquired my first Corvette, a 79. The rt headlight door was closing well below the level of the body. Upon looking from below I notice an "L" shaped bracket that is floppy around. A wiggled it a couple times now the door has problems going up or down. It looks quite different then the lt side. Does anyone have a piture or instructions on adjusting the headlight doors? Also can you recoment the best manual for things like this? Thanks

First, make sure the H/L assembly bracket is not broken.
It bolts to a steel reinforcement just in front of the hood.
It also bolts in front ... near the bumper cover edge.
Often, these reinforcements rust out ... leaving the H/L hanging low.
Also, the main bracket can break - usually near the front where it is thin.

I don't have the adjustment procedure here, but I have seen it
in both the Assembly Instruction Manual and Haynes manual.

That L bracket on the outside of the housing should be tight. It's held on with two bolts. On the end of that bracket is a nut & bolt. That bolt should have a rubber cap over the head because that is your head light assembly stop bumper/limit for the open position.

Haynes manual. I've used it to do the whole car. Hasn't let me down yet. As far as the bracket, I can't tell you for sure with out looking at my own. Can't do that from work.

Oh yeah - Eddie is right. I didn't realize you were describing
the steel stop bracket on the side. If it's wobbly, you might
have corrosion issues. Try to wiggle it out of there. If it IS
the stop bracket, then you don't REALLY need it. Mine was
corroded off of one side for many years.
