I am really having a tough time making a decision. I am looking at a very nice 80 L82. I love the lines on these cars, but I am coming out of a really potent 12 second Buick Grand National and like good performance from a toy car.
My other option is a very nicely built 91 LX Mustang a supercharged built 347. Top quality car making 600 hp at the wheels. It is wearing new paint, but I am not as crazy about the styling of Mustangs.
I like having a car with a backseat to take the kids & wife out for an ice cream cruise, but that is not a must.
I'd pick a chevy over a ford any day, especially a rustang. But thats my personal opinion. If your wanting a family fun car than the vette is out. If you want a real american sports car, the vette is the way to go. BTW, 79 and eariler are going to be your best bet if you want to put some serious HP under the hood.
Posting this question on a Corvette forum will get you one answer, if you post this on a rustang forum I am guessing that you may get a different answer
I'm looking for a Mustang myself. A later 5.0 with a 5-speed would work for me. It's going to be a donor for a Factory Five Cobra. Can't think of a better purpose for buying a Mustang than to part it out.
Well I suppose I asked for the Mustang critisisms. First and foremost I like cars, Mopar, GM, and even a few Fords. I have owned about 10 musclecars in my life, but not a Ford yet.
Not sure what I'll do yet, but what is with all the negative talk about late model Mustangs? They can be bought pretty cheap and have a huge aftermarket, and the cars were really overbuilt right from the factory. There is more to like than not like about a Mustang.
I drove an 81 'stang for many years. It was aTtop model,
and body style same as 79-9x. I stiwtched it from a 4cyl auto
to a 302 5sp with 8.8 posi, headers, dual exh. I liked it. NO I loved it,
but then I got the vette. The 'stang sits under a tarp ... rusting.
Someday I might use the drivetrain for a kit car.
I always think about that Vanilla Ice video when I think about those style 5.0 Mustangs (stupid white boy singing "Ice Ice Baby" about his "Five.Oh"). That's enough to turn me off to that style mustang for life.

Then again, they are easy and cheap to make fast.
That's a really bad mental picture you just put into my conscience.
Do this.... Go for a nice drive in any big city with the family. Offer your kids a dime for every Mustang they see. Offer then a dollar for every Vette they see. When you get home they will have a TON of dimes and just a few dollars. My sons and I call the Mustangs a Dime car. Becuase they are a dime a dozen and every kid on the road seems to have one.
I told my oldest one time that we would see a Mustang at every light we stopped at from our house to the highway. We stopped at 9 lights and saw 7 Mustangs. Why would you want a car that everyone can have. Get a Vette and be a shepard and not just one of the sheep.
And yes... I at one time had a 79 Mustang... Smooth shifting but NOT EVEN CLOSE to the Vette.
To be Devil's advocate, nice fox bodied Mustang are becoming pretty scarce, and let's face it. With 600 HP at the wheels - it is an instant grin factor!
I love the '80 Corvette, but what about the horror stories I hear about the rear differential not being able to handle extra horsepower???
