I am trying to covert my A/C on a 1980 to R-134. I put adaptors on the high and low ports and drain the old coolant and filled with the R-134. It blows a little cool but not nearly as it should. Is there something else I should be doing for this conversion?

The oil used in an R12 A/C systom is not compatable with oil
used in a RI34A system. you have to drain all the old oil out
pull a vaccum etc. very involved &complicated procedure
I used one of those interdynamic conversion kits on my 83 Caddy. It has blown cold for 3 years now. The kit comes with a special chemical that is supposed to fix the oil compatibility problem.
Also recommend you refill with R134a with stopleak as R134a seems to find leaks R12 didn't (r134a molecules are smaller).

Would help if we knew what all was done. Am assuming that you had a leak which is created to opportunity to convert. Assume that the leak was repaired, system was evaced and was able to hold the vacumn. What are the line pressures? What are the vent temps?

I rebuilt my system last year. I installed a new compressor, hoses, drier, pressure switch, and all new green O-rings. My car blows 39o at the center vents on 134a
