I'm trying to re-configure my exhaust system so that the pipes exit behind the rear wheel. This would place the muffler(s) under the passenger compartment.
How hot do mufflers get? I've never really placed my hand on a muffler after running awhile. I imagine they're cooler than the pipes leading up to them, no? Has anyone used a "muffler blanket" to wrap a muffler?
They run cooler than cat's, so no worries...just fab a heat shield for each muffler to help with cabin heat. Curious...how you gonna fit them under the pass compartment?
If you like chambered mufflers, MidAmerica now makes a set for your '79. They would fit nicely under the car and should be easy to fab the tailpipes to exit behind the rear wheel. If not, the previous system looks like it will work well also.
