minor door trouble
I have a 1980 vette (stock) and the drivers side door will not stay shut unless you hold up on it as you are shutting it. What should I do to fix it? I don't think it is the latch or the spring for the handle, they work fine and don't stick. I think it might be an alignment problem. thanks!

Door hinges

Your door hinges are probably worn and sagging.
You can install bushings and fix them or replace the hinges.

Hi!
It's hard to tell what your problem is without seeing the car but I want you to check something.
Inspect the hinges. There are metal pins going through each hinge. The holes that the pin goes through have small bronze bushings in them. These bushings can become worn and need to be replaced. You can buy a kit which contains new pins and bushings. They usually provide 2 sizes of bushings just in case your holes are really wollowed out.
When the bushings go bad the door has a tendency to hang wrong and may even hit the fiberglass or some other part of the door jam. If you find the bushings are bad, swap them out and do the hinge springs at the same time (since your into it anyway). If your doors don't stay open on their own, you definitely need to replace the springs
Short of the bushings being bad you may have a bent hinge, bent frame or the door needs to be adjusted. Let us know what you find and we will try to talk you through it
