I have been putting my 72 back together and was adjusting the hood pins. I closed it and my left side won't pop open. I removed the side grill and can reach up to pull the release farther, but it still won't open. The oinf must be off center and not releasing. Any ideas?
It hasn't happened to me yet but after reading about it several times here I thought I'd take a look at what could be done. The article describes it pretty well. The toughest part would be how to fit the screwdriver and/or very small hand under the hood to push it through the hole and against the latch.
I have vise grips on the release cable, holding it in the release position, and have tried manipulating the hood. I can reach my hand through the side grill opening and push the release, but it doesn't work. I will try the screwdriver.
I think its the same. The drivers side activate a seperate cable/mechanism for the pass. side. Find this with your hand and activate this mechanism, or do the override plug.
At the very very worse you can undo the mounting nuts to the closed latch and start over.
You reach up through the side gill and blindly place a wrench.
Last resort you don't want to do it. I had to once since the hood closed and was too far out to release.
If it won't open with the over ride plug. Try Try try to finding that finger on the cowl that releases the drivers side. It hits the hood mounted latch and cables over to the pass. side. You might be able to see it with it raised but don't force it open too far.
The hood shove works too if thats the direction needed to release.
Shove should be considered shove though.
The passenger side released. It is only the driver's side that won't. I will try all the helpful suggestions on Wed (my first ime I can get to my baby). Thanks, all.

I’m having the exact same problem? If anyone has a solution please share.
Hello Bob,
So....20 years have passed and hoods are still getting stuck closed.
Is it one side or both?
Can you sense if the hood release cable is moving one or both of the latches?
Regards......
If you pull the hood release the passenger side pops open, the driver side doesn’t. I took the grill off the fender and I can manually operate the driver side hood release but it still won’t release the hood.
Do you know of anyway to loosen the hood hinge bolts? I’m assuming the tang on the hood release is out of alignment a little bit.
If all of the above fails after multible tries, I had the same problem on a 69 and just before I got out the sawzall to cut the hood off, I decided to try removing the parking light grills and reach up to the hood hinges and unscrew all of the hood hinge bolts. Unfastening the hood hinges allowed me to wiggle the hood around and it popped finally popped free. Last resort, but better than cutting the hood off LOL's!
