there might also be laws where you can build your garage a certain height and so on....... plus if you attach it to the house, you might run into housing codes issues.... a detached garage would be better.... sort of say it's a large shed........ if it's an add on to the house, you will have code issues such as fire ratings/duct work/layers of drywall...etc...

I have no space to build a detached garage... My lot is only 12000 sq/ft and my house (2900 sq ft + 462 sq ft garage) + screened in huge pool use most of that space...

If you have the property........How about buying a quality trailer to keep the car in? Some of them are really nice inside.

City codes in my city don't allow trailers to be kept outside.. You can have one, but it would have to be in the garage...
My '68 actually sits on the trailer in the garage..

Good grief. That is waaaaay ridiculous. I live in the city and have to pay city and county taxes on my house and they both add up to around $1000 and it makes me cry. I would really be singing the blues if I had to pay $6500.

Well, the house is worth in the high $400k - about $500k range...

Expensive home = expensive tax...

I don't believe you can build up to the "easment". There is a set-back measurement that you must allow for. I know here in Broward and in Palm Beach County, you have to have a 5' ~ 10' set-back from any adjoining property line (or easment), depending on the zoning.

Draw a rough set of plans and submit to the building dept. They'll tell you right at the counter if it'll fly.

I say build a second story over that garage...make it look like a room addition, but leave it empty. Put a lift on one side and a loft on the other. You can use the "loft" side for storage and, with steel beam framework, you can pull engines. It's cheaper to go "up" than "out" due to the cost of foundation work.

$500k is "expensive"? Median home price in Palm Beach County is $480k. Just looked at a 1br, 700 s/f condo overlooking the Intracoastal for $299k... Maybe I should check out the West coast....!

The average price around here is lower, but I'm in a pretty upscale neighborhood.. There are multi milion homes within 1/4 mile of my house... The house across from mine is worth about $750k
Prices have gone insane....
BTW - the house has 2900 sq/ft (4 BR, 3.5 bath, 2 CG, fireplace, caged 30 x 18, 8 foot deep pool (22000+ Gallon) on a 12000 sq/ft lot..
The garage is additional 462 sq/ft and there's a 400 sq/ft covered area around the pool. Got a wet bar in the living room and a wet bar at the covered area at the pool. There's also a built in electric grill... Also got a central vacuum etc... It's a really cool house....

Here's a list of home (that match the same criteria as mine) in my entire city:

(4+ bedrooms 3+ bathrooms, pool, fireplace, greater than 2750 sq/ft)

Florida Real Estate, especially in coastal counties has gone insane.. The prices are usually lower in non-coastal counties...

Talking about relativity... For $500k, you can maybe buy a trailer home in San Jose or Palo Alto in the San Francisco Bay area..

Either a '68 to '72 convertible (project car with good frame and body but could be without engine etc) or a '80 - '82 in average condition with good frame and body... but in need of interior and/or mechanical work..
I don't want to pay too much because I'm going to spend money to build the car the way I want it.. I'm not looking for a Vette that is in nice or "all original"... because I'm not willing to pay a high price...
I actually want to build the car myself.. dropping a mild engine and overdrive tranny into it. I want to make it a reliable, relatively fuel economic driver C3...
