so, we have all heard my issues with my painter...well....now i have issues with the paint
the paint is cracking in the rear light housing on the bottom. i'm starting to see fish eyes and bubbles........ you think that the surface wasn't prepped and there was water under it when they sprayed..... they said they sealed it twice but i'm still skeptical on that.....

sounds like vapor lock . it isn't the paint. it's yet again the painter's fault. bad prep work or spraying too many layers in too short of a time are probably the culprit.
rut row raggy......... i know they were trying to get it done in less than a week...... the with all the paint/primer/sealer/clear they said they put on, i'm sure something didn't cure right...... i have been heavily thinking about getting it repainted next year....toooo many little issues......
How can I break this to you....that paint job has MAJOR issues that will get worse over time..Sorry...,It will probably need to be stripped down and re-sprayed. It has contamination under the paint....
i think that is what i was gonna do....strip it back down..... maybe i'll lift the body and do it that way.... then send it out to get painted right...... i'm gonna give it a few more weeks until i call my expainter and bitch him out....... he had a chance to do a nice car but it seems like it'll back to the drawing board... if i do pull the body, i'll shave the bumperrettes and suicide the doors...
He might of put his hand on the body too. No touchy after prepping.
If it was locked solvents- too much paint- waxed too soon, I would expect it to do it all along the area, not just a spot. Something spotty that was done. Probably was just missed.
Fisheyes are classic sign of contamination. Blow more on to cover the fisheye?
If you want to be shot, hung and burned walk into a paint shop with a can of silicone.
Before dumping the entire paint job.... can it be fixed?
i paid 2500 for it....but, we went over it together before i even gave him the car..... i told him what i expected to be done and told him to give me a price later that day....he called and said 2500...i said ok i'll bring it by tomorrow....that was that.........if he would have said 3000 i would have been fine cause i know how much it would cost at a shop..... aside from missing areaa to paint, it seemed as if he just threw it on and din't really care....... i'm at my last ends with this car and seems that all the stuff that i had other people do to the car, they either screwed it up or left me hangin'..... if i could paint, i would have painted it but i didn't want to start that day.......also, most of the body work was done, he just had to feather out a few areas..
it's not only about "you get what you pay for" ... mine was painted almost five years ago (the previous owner had it done) at a no name 'el cheapo' paint shop..... he paid $400 and the paint is still not flaking off.... it's a single stage paint, it looks horrible but it is not coming off the car by itself and it does not bubble.... the paint is not shiny anymore, it seems that waxing the car is a waste of time but for $400 you cannot expect more....
if I paid somebody $2500 for a paintjob, I'd be as po'd as you are.... bubbles are a sign of poor prepwork and cleaning ...
The materials we use (All DuPont), costs on average $1,000.00. Then figure 100 hours MINIMUM to properly strip and refinish the vehicle. Round numbers, $6,000.00. At $2,500.00, he was losing money, and knew it. Still no excuse for shoddy work. If he won't re-do it, ask for a partial refund.
$2500 is "cheap" for a fiberglass bodied car....If I paid someone $5k for a paintjob, I'd be po'd.
At a "professional" shop $5000 and more is 'normal'..... I had my rear bumper painted by one of my neighbors (driveway paintjob) and it's a piece of paint-art compared to the rest of my car... that guy is going to paint the entire car
There's another forum member with an awesome driveway paintjob (red Vette with a hole in the hood)
Avoid shops unless you're willing to spend the money... you won't get a great job done for less than $5000 .... as soon as you mention that it's a Vette the price jumps up at least $3000 .... ...
i stripped the car and molded/shaved all my panels..... i used stripper and cleaned it with prep stuff for about a year while i was still working on it... i had it tarped and it never seen rain..... i took care of it.... i read posts on making sure oil's and other liquids shouldn't come in contat with it......l i did my part...... i'm sure they made their money (him and his brother did the work)........ i'll just ride it out this year and see how i feel about it later......
