GM Bean counters at work
I was looking at the license plate light and how cheap it looks, especially in the giant hole in the bumper cover that it's supposed to mount in. Always had looked like a quick-fix job that some designer at GM did at the last minute.
Today I was under the rear of my 95 Beretta checking a loose muffler clamp and happened to look up at the license plate lamp. OMG it's the same EXACT lamp assembly and the same weird shapped hole in the bumper cover. Now it's 20 years later (in 1995) and those pieces are still being installed in the same die cut opening and looking like a misfit. But I guess if it works you don't need to redesign it.
BTW I've had enough of the misfit. I fiberglassed over the hole and installed a lamp assembly from my wife's 1995 Jeep SUV that I had laying around from when I replaced the hatch door that was perfect. And yes, I know, no one can see it up there, but I would have known it was there still looking like crap. After all, this is the second time in less than a year that I'm doing the bumper cover and the first time was "doing it by the book", but the second time is "doing it better".
