Default The pumpy she leaky!

Just a word of praise to all in the forum for their expertise and/or experiences in our crazy, and sometimes frustrating world of fantastic plastic. My mechanical fuel pump had a serious case of indigestion this morning, puking fuel all over my garage floor upon start-up. Less than 30 bucks later and a quick review of techniques found here, I'm now up and running, hopefully good to go. Carlisle is a 6 hour haul from my part of Connecticut, and if the pump had to crap out, I'm sure glad it happened now.

BTW, to the genius that found they could access those 2 fuel pump bolts by removing the r\f tire and reaching them thru the wheel well opening, thank you!

Great tip and one to file away. Glad it was an easy fix and you are on the road again.

good job, just one question. If you used a longer bolt to hold the fuel pump rod in place -did you remove it and use a shorter one with sealer?
Just another CT vetter!~

Nope, I used the 'grease up the shaft and work kinda quick method'... It worked just fine. The only PITA was having to remove the oversized plate to access the fuel pump rod when it fell down on removal. Other tha that, the job was'nt too bad. I give it a 2 beer (outa 12 possible).

BTW, on my 76 L-48, the bolt is a 3/8"-16, needs to be an inch or longer to hold the rod....just an FYI...

Hi 78pacer,
Ironically enough I'm just starting this process with my 1980 C3 mechanical fuel pump. Do you have the name of the post you started so I can review all the same advice you got?

Thanks

You have to search the forum under 'fuel pump' and I'm, sure the threads will come up. Btw.......good luck...
