Default Reclining Seats?

Hello everybody! I just bought a 79 Vette last Saturday from a fellow forum member and I LOVE the car, with one minor exception: the driver's seat leans back too far for my liking. I prefer to be much closer to the steering wheel, so other than buying new seats what are my options for making my seat recline? I appreciate any and all advice.

I bought new seats to correct that. I tried several things to raise the back and nothing worked well. If you have/ or know someone with a little mig you might tack something on the stops to bring the back forward.

On my 79, I just rolled up a small towel (same color as seats) and placed in between the top and bottom , which raised the recline. Works great......................LT

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I have a buddy with a welder and if that doesn't work I know a Target that sells towels.

Mine's got about 6 big ole washers between the floor & the seat rail. It raises the back of the seat about an inch or so.

I didn't put them in there, but I put them back each time I pull the seat for something. I like them there.

I felt the same way as you when I got mine. I placed an old tape case behind the seat for awhile. Finally just took that out. After driving for a little (and I do men a little. Have worked on it more than drove it). I finally got used to it and really don't even notice any more. Now it's more like that is the way it's supposed to feel.

I think this may be a worn or broken part on the seat. You can check on a catalog site of the exploded seat parts. Compare to what you have.

I think you may be correct, after driving the last couple days I have become much more comfortable in the vette. I think that when I remove the seats this weekend to recover them I will add some washers just because it can't hurt.

If the internal seat frame is cracked or broken at the rear, you can get a plate that fits on. It restores the seat back to its original upright position. Check Corvettecentral, MidAmerica, Zip, etc.
