Default Courtesy Lamp Timer

I have an 82 vette and once I turn off the car, get out and close the door, the interior lights should turn off within 30 seconds. They don't, they stay on and cause my battery to drain. I had to remove the timer but now I have no interior lights. Is there any way to test the time. Ecklers has it for $66 but I would hate to buy a new one without pinpointing the exact problem. Any suggestions?

I removed mine because the lights would just turn themselves on. You can put a jumper in between the +12V wire and the trigger wire and they will work like normal interior lights. I don't know how to test it tho. I found my car had a weak battery. I haven't reinstalled the timer since I switched the battery, so I don't know if it was bad or not.

Don't buy it off Ebay or Ecklers etc. http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/ on the net has them for a little over $30.

The connector for that box just plugs into the wiring harness. If you disconnect the wires on either side of that pigtail they will attach to each other then you have normal door lights, just no timer.

thanks for the info. I opened up the timer and noticed one of the capacitors is corroded. I am going to see if I can find the cap at Radio Shack and replace it. If not, I'll just order it from http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/ . They have it for $34.00. Big difference from Eckers $66. Thanks for the info.

No problemo! I learned awhile back that a whole bunch of stuff can be purchased from gmpartsdirect, the dealer and other places far cheaper than the Corvette parts houses and Ebay. What I really get a kick out of is when these guys claim the parts are discontinued. There's a bunch of these guys on Ebay fishing for suckers. The few that stick out most are the guys selling blower motor resistors, courtesy light timers & bushings. The big parts houses list a ton of these parts also as if there hard to get, again the dealer and gmpartsdirect almost always have the same things far cheaper. Good luck &

My car was doing the same thing. I bought a new timer but I haven't installed it yet. I almost prefer just turning on the dome light at the headlight switch manually as I need it. I'll eventually put the timer in though. I just hope it works ok when I do.
