i live on the northern outskirts of houston, texas, where all the oil companys, refineries, and oil drilling service companys call home. premium was 2.65 last night, and i do work for an oil service company that manufactures the drill bits that do the rock cutting to drill an oil hole. and yes, business is good.

this is crazy
filled up with premium last night 2.70 a gallon. filled up the other car tonight 2.59 for regular. person at the register said it was going up 20 cents a gallon tomorrow that would be 2.69 for regular and 2.90 for premium I paid 2.31 for premium last saturday. thats almost a 70 cent increase in 1 week. there should be laws against that, where is your government when you need them. fortunatley I do not have to drive much but feel sorry for those who have a long drive to work

79Mako,
I am a certifed Prius tech, the battery is under warranty for 10 years, by the time a consumer has to buy one you will be able to replace the individual cell that is bad and not the entire battery, about $150.00. maintenence cost is actually less on the hybrid vechiles because the gasoline engines do not run all the time. so the hybrid is a good alternative, just a little expensive up front

Three days ago I bought gas at $2.30 a gallon. I filled up last night for $2.50 a gallon. $.20 difference in two days, I call .
Supposedly if you get in an accident that requires the jaws of life to get you out you are pretty much dead. There are huge electric lines that would endanger rescuers if they tried to cut the car open to save you.

It coasts me over $70 to fill up my fuel **** (referring to my truck) this morning with the “cheep” gas, and I only run Sunoco 94 in my Vette. Which is now at $2.98 a gallon here in Philadelphia, Pa

Taking a guess that the exchange rate is $1.87/GBP, a (UK) gallon of standard unleaded gas is $7.67 where I am. Specialist leaded fuel (which I used to run in the bikes occasionally) is $9.35 (don't use it now, figuring that it will be cheaper to change the valve seats if they ever start recessing). From my perspective wages are low. Somebody doing the same job as me in the US, or Aussie, or Canada, etc is on a lot more than I am, so the high cost of fuel is really crippling.
Make the most of your low prices. One thing's for sure: fuel costs aren't going to drop.

WHAT? Not a lot of money in gas stations? Duh.
As for citing...no one could cite facts about students going to flight scool here till it was too late. Open your eyes!
On second thought, lets stop this part of the thread. No good can come from it.

Gas stations are individually owned and operated. The gas station owner owns the land and the store (atleast their bank does). (s)he then contracts with an oil company. The oil company installs the underground tanks, pumps and provides branding (signs, logos etc).
The owner of the gas station receives a very small amount of the money from selling gas. Ususally around 10 cents/gallon. If all they sold was gas they would all go bankrupt. The money is in the stuff inside the gas station. Coffee, hot dogs = very high margin. Candy is good too. This is what pays for the gas station to be around, not gas sales.
So if you feel the need to complain about gas prices (and you should), complain to the oil companies, not the poor clerk making minimum wage or the owner of the gas station that only owns a big mortgage.

Interesting bit on the news last night about hybrids. Basically, they said if you are looking to make an environmental statement, it's a good car. If you're looking to save money, you'll save about $85 in the first 3 years.
