Was doing some tuneup work on my Aunt's all original 1980 Riviera (350 V8). With the vacuum advance plugged I set the timing to 18 degrees as specified on the engine sticker. When I hooked up the vacuum advance - - the timing reference "disappeared" off the scale.
Using the dial back on my light I was showing 40 degrees advance at 800 RPM.
Vacuum for the advance is being pulled from a plastic "module" that has a port for "DIST" and a port for "SAL". This module is fed vacuum from a port on the Q jet base.

I think that isn't too far off actually. As soon as you were to open the carberator up a little, the vac advance would "disappear" and be out of the equation. Mine is 16* initial timing, + 20 vacuum for a total of 36* at idle.
